Eva arrives in the USA for the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games

Eva Thornton qualified for the Reebok CrossFit Games ladies masters 45-49 year division. This is the 2nd time that Eva has qualified for the CrossFit Games in the past 3 years! In 2015 Eva came 4th!

We will be posting some of her news and progress over the next 2 weeks ,while she prepares and takes part in the CrossFit Games. So keep following us on social media and here, under our News, for the latest on her trip to the Reebok CrossFit Games in Madison!

Eva arrived late last week in Brookfield, Chicago. She is renting an apartment in LaGrange Park together with Kylie Massi, and her daughter Olivia. Kylie Massi is a multiple CrossFit Games athlete and won the 45-49 year category in 2015 and placed 4th in 2016. Olivia narrowly missed out on competing at this years CrossFit Games in the teenage girls 14-15 year old division, based on a tie-breaker decision! Eva and Kylie are training at CrossFit Posted together with Karyn Silverstri, who was a masters athlete at the CrossFit Games in 2014 and 2015, who trains and coaches at CrossFit Posted! A big thank you to CrossFit Posted (@crossfitposted) for hosting Eva this week!

After spending the weekend getting mobile and moving again after the long trip, Eva has managed to get in some good lifting, odd object work, some swimming and our class met con from Monday! Eva stays in Brookfield until Friday when she then moves onto Madison Wisconsin, home of this years 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games!

Keep following us for more updates on Eva’s trip!

Committed Club – May and June 2017

From 1 May 2017 we have established our CrossFit Algoa Committed Club!
This Committed Club (CC) is determined at the end of each month, using the attendance from the Itensity system (workouts logged on Itensity).

For the Winter of 2017 we have set the threshold of entry into the Committed Club at 12 or more workouts attended and logged for each month. In Summer this number will mostly likely increase. The Members for the Committed Club will be announced in class early each month, and the names will be written on the Blackboard and will also be mentioned in social media.

The idea of the Committed Club is to help incentivize diligent attendance. Regular attendance/training is basically the first and most important factor for making the achievements you desire! Putting in the time, and getting the work done, is what will set you apart from the rest of the population and that will give you the health and fitness gains you are looking for! The human body was designed to be active on most days of the week…we recommend training 6 days out of 7 and resting on the last. Obviously not everyone can make it into the Box 6 days per week because of various reasons but we recommend that you attend at least 3 sessions per week and get in home-based activity or other sport on at least 2-3 other days in the week! This should be a weekly and long term goal of yours to make the progress your desire!
