Starting Crossfit under the specialized guidance of Dave Levey has literally changed my life.
I started CrossFit a year after an operation to attach a torn tendon in my shoulder, which significantly reduced my shoulder mobility. This was at the age of 55. Initially, I was intimidated by CrossFit and felt that my age did not allow me to join. The patient and encouraging instruction by Dave enabled me to slowly regain the strength and mobility in my shoulder, as well as gain the confidence to do CrossFit.

I thought I’ll write to you about my progress as a sprinter since starting CrossFit.
As you know, I was a bit skeptical and couldn’t see how it will be beneficial in developing my athletic ability and overall speed. It’s been 5 months since I’ve joined and I feel like I have a new lease on life. Besides the physical benefits, I have also regained my confidence – on and off the track, in and outside the box.
This past Saturday I had a speed endurance session consisting of 1 x200 @80%, 6x60m @ 100%/80% respectively, 1×200 @ 100%. You can say it’s my benchmark session as it encompasses speed, speed endurance, muscle endurance and lactic acid tolerance levels thus giving me a good indication as to where I am, in terms of preparation and conditioning. For the first time in 3 years, I dipped under 7 sec for the 60m!! Now it may not be very fast in terms of sprinting but if you’re 39 years old it’s pretty impressive. I couldn’t believe it – well I could, but I was surprised at the ease of which I executed it. I felt strong and powerful and I could feel the track responding to each of my strides. For the first time in 3 years, I pounded the track without fear of getting injured.
I believe it’s a combination of a few things: having a smart, experienced coach who understands how to program and adjust to individual needs, being flexible in my programming on the track as to accommodate the base of my training w.r.t overall conditioning, my family and the supporting and encouraging environment at our box, CrossFit Algoa .
Am I a skeptic? Not anymore. Will I recommend this form of training? Most definitely. Am I a believer? You bet yes!
From a happy CrossFit’ing masters sprinter…

My name is Mel, I am from Germany. I started at CrossFit Algoa in November 2016. I have had numerous massages from Cindy. The massage therapy does hurt during the treatment, but it’s a good type of pain! Afterwards, I feel so much better! Cindy is a lovely person and has alot of empathy. She is doing a great job!

While training for a half ironman, I was plagued with pain in my groin, which limited my training and daily activities. Numerous other treatment sessions didn’t help at all. After one session of massage and triggering, I was back on my bike, pain-free.
Cindy and Dave diagnosed tightness in my hip flexors from overuse, which is common among runners and cyclists. I continued sessions with Cindy during my high volume training periods, and I think if it wasn’t for the massage and trigger therapy at CrossFit Algoa, I wouldn’t have made it to the start, or the finish line this year!
